Top 5 Hidden Beaches of Krk Island Accessible Only by Boat

Krk Island, the largest and one of the most accessible Croatian islands, hides incredible natural beauty that remains invisible to most tourists who stick to the main roads. While the city beaches in Krk, Baška, and Malinska are crowded in summer, the eastern and southern coasts of the island hide a real little paradise – bays and beaches that are impossible to reach by foot or car. Renting a boat on Krk means opening the door to a world of untouched nature, high cliffs where griffon vultures nest, and turquoise sea that reminds one of the most remote tropical islands with its clarity.

1. Vela Luka and Mala Luka (Baška)

Located on the southeastern part of the island, the Vela and Mala Luka bays are gems of the Krk karst. Although hiking trails lead to them, they are extremely demanding, so arriving by boat provides incomparable comfort. Vela Luka is spacious, with a beautiful pebble shore and a turquoise bottom, while Mala Luka is somewhat smaller and even more intimate. Here you will feel the power of nature and peace interrupted only by the song of crickets. On the Vela Luka beach, there is also a small seasonal facility where you can have a refreshing drink, making this trip a perfect blend of wilderness and civilization.

2. Golden Beach (Stara Baška)

The Golden Beach, or Slatinica Bay, is named after the high, yellowish cliffs that surround it. When the sun shines on these cliffs, the whole bay gets a golden glow that reflects in the sea. The beach is covered with fine white pebbles, and the sea is so transparent that anchored boats look like they are floating in the air. Due to the steep cliffs, access from land is practically impossible, so you will meet only other sailors here. It is an ideal place for a morning swim before the mistral wind strengthens, as the bay is exposed to winds from the sea.

3. Oprna Bay (Stara Baška)

Although Oprna is located near Stara Baška, access by steep paths often deters visitors. Arriving by boat allows you to anchor in the very heart of the bay and enjoy one of the most beautiful pebble beaches on the island. The sea here is distinctly turquoise, and the bottom is rich in sea vegetation and fish, making Oprna a favorite destination for snorkeling. The bay is well protected from the bura wind, but during the south wind (jugo) it can be wavy, so it is best to visit it on calm, summer days.

4. Galun Islet and Mulin Bay

Sailing from Punat towards Stara Baška takes you past the islet of Galun, a habitat for numerous seagulls. Nearby is Mulin Bay, a hidden cove surrounded by pine forest that offers much-needed shade during hot summer hours. This is a 'Robinson' beach in the true sense of the word – no bars, no sun loungers, just you and untouched nature. The bottom is pebbly with rocky parts, ideal for exploring the underwater world with a mask and snorkel. Watch out for shallows near the coast and always anchor at a safe distance.

5. St. George Bay

This deep bay located between the city of Krk and Punat provides excellent protection from all winds. It is known for its peace and quiet even in the peak of the season. In the bay, there are remains of an old church, which gives the whole place a mystical atmosphere. The beaches are rocky and pebbly, and the pine forest descends all the way to the sea. Due to its depth, St. George Bay is often a destination for sailors who spend the night here at anchor, enjoying the view of the starry sky and the silence broken only by the light lapping of the sea against the boat's hull.
